Assessment of Rotavirus Infection in Hospitalized Children with Diarrhea

Background: Rotavirus (RV) is associated with diarrhea in children under 5 years old. It leads to severe dehydration. RV infection the third cause of hospitalization and death Objectives: This study aimed assess frequency hospitalized old during 2021-2022. Methods: In this cross-sectional observational study, a total 190 stool samples from were collected Mofid Children’s Hospital Tehran December 2020 March 2021. was detected by an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Chi-square tests performed determine difference age gender group, time, symptoms. Results: The overall prevalence 28.5% higher boys (68.5%), aged ≤ 12 months (44.4%), mixed feeding (33.3%); it more common winter. Vomiting (79.6%), fever (87.03%), non-exudative (88.8%) observed most RV, but there no significant differences without RV. Conclusions: Due among age, establishing national registration system control programs, like vaccination, seems be considered.
